Old School Footy.

I was just rummaging through my hard drive and came across this old clip, it’s probably about 3 years old. Back when I was first trying w2w shuvs. Makes me wish the Ski Cuda was running so I could play on the small wake. All she needs is a new engine, tranny, and maybe some stringer reinforcement. Bummer. I think a lot of good stuff would be going down right now if I could get that beast up and running. I miss riding boat!

Wooo! We started doing monthly covers at Throw It Down. Feel free to make submissions!

Roman Rusinov came over to Lake Mills early one morning to try to capture some kflips. This shot had a crazy light leak, I love how the colors came out! I <3 film.

I’ve been waiting for an update to Kyle Patrick Smith’s site…6 Foot Giraffe. This guy is top knotch with pen & ink. I absolutely love his doodles and the way he sees things. I wouldn’t mind borrowing his drawing hand for a bit. Thanks for the update & link Kyle, keep the link flowing!

Worlds 10.

8.24.10

shred. //

I never made it to the podium my first year riding in Pro Women’s Wakeskate (2007). I only made it to finals one time, because I got really lucky and slid the whole flat bar 1st try. I used to do crazy things like one footed butter slides in my run. That year I was competing in wakeboarding too, that was my focus and the skating was just for laughs. I put the wakeboard down shortly after that and everything else escalated from there. This last weekend marks my 3rd World Champ title in a row…

Kiyoka came all the way from Japan to compete. Stoked to know girls are ripping all over the world! Congrats to all the girls that rode! My dad flew out for the weekend and we celebrated Sunday night with fireworks. Somehow the night ended in the kitchen, with the lights off, 3 flashlights and everyone going crazy of some serious bongo drumming. Like a full on indian tribe drum circle. Wild.

Thanks for the special trophy Brandon! Just another day at the FCTN headquarters…

Meet Scott Stewart.

8.15.10

shred. video. //

Scott just recently moved in with Danny and I out in Chuluota. This kid’s got some serious talent. He hadn’t even heard of the Buy Wake Global Rider Search and it was only 2 weeks away. We woke up extra early a few mornings so I could ride and have time to film before going to work at FCTN. Stoked I could help him out with his entry and I finally got to make some good use of my 7D!

Head over to vimeo to watch it in HD, I’m not a super pro member just yet…

Rock. Paper. Scissors. I Win.

Rock it off for a bite is big in our house. Rock it off for anything really. Nick claims he is the king of ‘rocking it off’. We’ll see how long that lasts. If only I had a photographic memory and could remember this chart. How to win everytime…

TID Monthly Cover Design.

7.27.10

shred. //

I whipped up this design for the new TID monthly covers. Every month a new photo will be featured as the cover, highlighting girls that rip from all over the world. I’m still overly excited about the TID project to progress the women’s side of wake as a whole, all over the globe. My buddy Kara Austin had so many stylish photo’s it was hard to narrow it down to just one! Anybody can submit photo’s, their own profile, etc to be featured on Throw It Down.

Nat’s.

7.20.10

I have ridiculously good luck flying (not). We get to the airport and our plane has a 3 hr delay, we miss our flight to Reno and have to stay in Salt Lake City over night. We catch the 1st flight out to Reno, they loose Meg’s bag, and we make it to the site 3 minutes before we had to be there to check-in. Meg sold her hotel voucher to some hippy dude and his wife to be for $30. Smart gal, hah.

I love it when Nationals is in Reno, it’s so close to home. Grandma won her title back. I had 20 something family members at the site watching both days. It was really great to see everyone. That was also some of the best contest riding I’ve ever done. Stoked on all the girls that came out to Reno! Good times…

My grandpartents friend, The Grandma (Cleone), Poppa Bob, & my mom…

I got up on a skurfer for the 1st time when I was 9 behind my grandparents SeaRay cabin cruiser. That’s about where it all started…cheers to them for getting me out there. I’ve got lots of photos to go through from Tahoe, more coming soon!

Do Work.

7.07.10

work. //

Everybody wants websites right now. It’s a fact. Sometimes I wish I didn’t know how to make them. Secretly, I think I enjoy making them. Other times I flee to coding because I need to pay bills, and drowning in code pays bills (most of the time). I’ve been cranking them out in the small amount of free-time I have (which is supposed to be ‘free’ time…oh well).

I just designed & launched my special man friend’s site: DannyThollander.com

Last week I built the blog of Charles Bergquist (he is the genius behind the deisgn):

I guess it’s safe to say I have become a wordpress ninja…I’ve got well over 10 wordpress sites in the bag and I’m sure several more to go. Hopefully Jnonymous get’s the next makeover! (fingers crossed!) Oh and if ya know anyone that needs a site, or a blog for that matter…feel free to send them my way! I’ve still got ’09 taxes to pay.

Cheers, Jen G.

Jest messing around with GSG’s sub polygon displacement tutorial. Pretty cool stuff. This would be awesome with some music based animation. I messed around for a while and this is the coolest result I got. Moon-like crater land.

Facelift Please?

6.22.10

random. //

This blog is over 2 years old. That means my portfolio is almost 4 yrs old, with no updates. Most of it is silly school projects and whatnot. Rookie business. Should I update it? Maybe. If I ever have the time. Maybe when I’m done building Charles & Danny’s websites, and after I do some edits to the projects website. And that’s all in my ‘free’ time which isn’t so much as to free. And in that time I want to be drawing or be creative but I’m coding my heart out. But really I’ve got a ‘to-do’ list that hits the floor and bounces back up in my face. Really I need to be doing a website that can pay for my taxes that I’ve extended once again. I’ve got a sweet job and I don’t want much freelance because I want to live in my free time. So not much need for a portfolio update then is there. This blog is starting to rust though. It needs a new face. Once day soon I hope…

The Art of Skateboarding.

6.15.10

inspiration. video. //

I generally only make it 10-20 seconds into most web videos…due to some general add, I get bored. But I watched that whole thing and even backed it up a few times, then watched it again. SICK. That whole thing really defines the ‘art’ of skateboarding to me…refreshing to see something different on a skate. A combo of old school, new school, and some of his own creative style. Inspiring. Nice work Kilian and Brett!

Problem Solving.

6.01.10

Problem Solving 101 (aka 10 reasons not to buy a Jetta)

Headlights dead? Use your brights.

Coolant leak? Refill with water/coolant every 3 days or so as necessary.

Broken driver window? Tape it up and use sunroof for drive-thru’s. They will look at you like you are crazy, they don’t understand the problem.

Bumper fell off? Zip tie it back on. Colorful zip ties are more fun.

Pieces falling out from under your hood? Put them in the trunk in case you need them later. You’d be surprised how much they charge for a small piece of plastic. If you have any dangly ones, drive careful off-road.

Trunk won’t open with the button? Fold the seats down to put things in the trunk. Maybe 6 months later you should try the keyhole in the trunk…that works too if you have the special touch.

Seat won’t stay in place after adjustment? Get out of the car, and get back in. If that doesn’t work try again but wait longer, and maybe throw a few kicks in the side of the car. Whatever you do, don’t drive with a loose seat. You will start to break and go flying forward, slamming onto the breaks and leaving nice tire marks in the pavement.

Lever to open hood broke off the car? Create a metal hook and fish around until you manage to hook the hood popper…this may take a while, be patient. Once opened, jimmy rig the lever back on with a piece of wire.

All of the warning lights in the dash on? The more the merrier. Keep driving until the car smokes or you hear weird noises. I’ve been driving like that for months now. Except the gas light…don’t ignore that one for too long.

Sun roof won’t close? It almost closes then opens again? Turn car off. Try again, fingers crossed. Never open sun roof again.

You know that weird look you have on your face when your trying to turn the darn camera on and off? Yea well, I can’t help but laugh every time I see one in the beginning and end of a go pro clip. So here ya go, I collaged some of the best, and the worst, so we can laugh together…baha ha HA! Maybe one day I will actually edit some of this goofy footage. Until then, laugh away…

I’m really excited and proud to announce the launch of the new Throwitdown.com! We’ve been working hard the last few months restructuring and rebuilding this site so it can become a major tool in the progression of women’s wake. We currently have profiles from riders in over 13 countries, and I’m sure that number will only grow from there! Feel free to get in contact with us if you want to contribute, whether it be through writing articles, making videos, or adding your own profile to the site. TID will also be hosting clinics and Girls Ride Days. Be on the lookout for monthly covers, featured riders of the month, and ongoing discussions in the forum

Release.

5.21.10

Read. genius. //

“That is why it is so important to let certain things go. To release them. To cut loose. People need to understand that no one is playing with marked cards; sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Don’t expect to get anything back, don’t expect recognition for your efforts, don’t expect your genius to be discovered or your love to be understood. Complete the circle.

Not out of pride, inability or arrogance, but simply because whatever it is no longer fits in your life. Close the door, change the record, clean the house, get rid of the dust.  Stop being who you were and become who you are.”
